Considerations when choosing an ISP

  • Prices depend on speed and range.
  • High speed is recommended for downloading files, viewing video, playing games, etc.
  • Low speed will do for basic web surfing, email and online banking.
  • With portable service no phone or cable lines are required, all you need is a power outlet. The signal travels through the air, allowing you to go online anywhere in the providers portable internet coverage area. A modem must be purchased separately (~$100.00).
  • A dialup connection could mean tying up your only phone line.
  • No matter what solution you choose, you will find people with good and bad experiences.
  • Consider getting a wireless router for laptop connections... it is inexpensive, easy to setup, and works very well.
