Meeting Minutes:

  1. Introduction of Admin Computing Support Rep Steering Committee (Michelle Sguigna from Food Services, Koorus Bookan from LT3, Cathy Cooper from ODAA). This steering committee will be instrumental in setting up future meetings, and will be involved in the training provided to computing support representatives in academic support departments.
  2. Keeping your workstations updated and secure with the  new and improved WSUS server (Tim Farrell). Please visit this web site to make sure machines in your area are being updated.
  3. Training Course for New Academic Support Computer Reps (Bob Hicks). The topics listed were generated after one meeting of the steering committee. The agenda will be modified before the course is offered in late August. All computer support reps are welcome to attend, not just the new ones.
  4. Other Training opportunities exist. The SEW program continues to be updated. There are conferences which computing support staff might be interested in attending, such as the Ontario Universities Computing Conference at the University of Guelph from May 28th to May 30th (http://www.oucc.ca).
  5. Conference for Academic Support Computer Reps (Bob Hicks). The agenda will also be modified for the conference. Suggestions are most welcome.

  7. Assessing the skills of incoming employees and arranging training as appropriate (Cathy Cooper). Michelle Sguigna has created tests in Word in Excel to help with assessment. She is willing to share these tests.
  8. Computing in Distance and Continuing Education (Scott Murie). Scott did an excellent job bringing us up-to-date on how things have changed in Distance Education and Continuing Education. As new courses continue to be offered on the web, new challenges will arise. The technology is changing as fast we we speak. Thanks very much Scott for taking the time to prepare and deliver your excellent presentation.
