Networking a Xerox Printer in an Academic Support Area

(NOTE: Faculty departments should contact their Faculty Help Desk for networking instructions.)

Step One:

  • Xerox will set up the printer and power it on (and connect it to the network??)
  • A config sheet will print out with the mac address (see Port Setup on the right hand side)
  • Submit a Request to hostmaster for an IP address and DHCP entry (information needed is: machine name, make, model, mac address,  and location)

Step Two:

  • connect the printer to the network (if not already done)
  • Power cycle the printer and check the config sheet to make sure the printer obtained its IP address from DHCP (see Network Setup/TCP/IP Settings on the left hand side)
  • Submit a Request to IST-WinServer for creation of the print queue

Step Three:

  • Notify users that they can now add the printer by clicking Start, Run and typing \\asupprt2, click OK, browse for the new printer and double click on it (to set the printer as default, when the print queue window opens, choose Set as Default from the Printer menu)

For more detailed information see Guidelines for New Printers.
