Configure & Secure Email - Microsoft Windows Mail v6.0
- From the Tools menu > select Accounts...
- Under the heading Mail > select your uwaterloo e-mail account > then select Properties
- From your uwaterloo e-mail account panel, select the Servers tab.
- Under heading Outgoing Mail Server > select "My server requires authentication" > Settings; and under Logon Information select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" as shown below:

Apply Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
- Select the "Advanced" tab.
- Under Server Port Numbers, below Outgoing Mail (SMTP), select the checkbox for "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". You will need to set the SMTP port to 465.
- Under Server Port Numbers, below Incoming Mail, select the checkbox for "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". The ports will automatically change to 995 for POP3, and 993 for IMAP.

- Click the "OK" button to save any changes.
(*) If you use an SMTP server other than your default SMTP server, you should change the SMTP settings (5-6 above) by going to "Advanced" SMTP settings and editing the settings for the appropriate server.
