Migrate an Existing Email Account to Exchange (Outlook 2007)
Faculty and staff should talk to their computing support representative.
Detailed documentation for technical support staff "Adding an Exchange account to Outlook 2007" is available from the SharePoint site.
The basic steps are:
- 2 days prior to the migration Request an Exchange account.
- 1 hour prior to the migration update the email field in WatIAM to the full email address (userid@connect.uwaterloo.ca).
- One hour after the WatIAM update, set up mail forwarding from the existing email account to userid@uwaterloo.ca.
- Add the new Exchange account to Outlook - see Configure Outlook 2007.
- Move mail and folders (including Sent Items and Inbox) from the old account to the Exchange account (Mailbox - full name).
- Copy Contacts (and if used, Calendar, Tasks, Notes, RSS Feeds, Journal) to the Exchange account.
- Remove the old account (Tools, Account Settings).
- Close 'Outlook Today' (Right-Click, Close).
