IST supports the University of Waterloo community through a variety of information technology services. In addition to technical infrastructure and campus information systems, IST and various faculty information groups provide support and training for instructors, students, researchers and staff. Information technology is subject to rapid and continuous change, which means that IST is constantly looking to capitalize on these changes in order to provide improved services to the campus.
A consequence of a 2009 IT Task Force report is the consolidation of a number of campus services. These include campus email services, management of the network, and the development of a centrally supported Web Content Management System based on Drupal. The consolidation of a number of Active Directories into a single instance is underway, with completion scheduled for early summer of 2012. A new learning management system was chosen in early 2011, and the huge task of migration of its users is well underway. New and enhanced client services continue to be rolled out. New services continue to be added to the HR, Quest, and Finance systems, and we have added substantial new resources to support our document management services through the OnBase system. As a result of the termination of the WaterlooWorks project, JobMine has been upgraded as an interim measure, and a project to determine what we will do going forward has been started. New systems and improvements to existing systems continue to be added in support of many different departments on campus. Finally, the movement of Housing into IST is an exciting development that will provide opportunities for us to learn from each other, to benefit from their expertise in a number of important areas, and to embark on the provision of major new student services.
We are proud to serve the university community and welcome your contributions and feedback.
