Electronic Classrooms

Many classrooms on campus have data projectors and podium computers installed. Most of these classrooms are maintained by the Instructional Technologies and Multimedia Services group, some are maintained by the faculties. If you have problems in an electronic classroom or need help, please read the directions on or near the podium as to who to call.

Podium Computers

The podium computers in most of the electronic classrooms are connected to Nexus (if you need to obtain a Nexus account, contact the help desk in your faculty). You will need to obtain a key for the podium from the Instructional Technologies and Multimedia Services group. You should make sure the applications you need are installed on the computer. You cannot install software on these podium computers. All podium computers have cd players and front access USB ports for memory sticks. Some memory sticks don't always fit the computer facing so users may have to bring a USB extension cable. All podiums have a separate DVD player and VCR in the podiums (some podium computers have DVD drives).

Laptops

Instructors may wish to use their laptops in class. Connections are available at the podiums for hooking up laptops to the projection system. Some of the e-classrooms have access to the internet via wireless connections, but instructors should try it to be sure.

Booking an E-Classroom

Instructors wishing to use an e-classroom should contact their timetable or departmental booking representative. The FLEX Lab (located on the 3rd floor of the Dana Porter Library) is a favourite for teachers integrating online learning practices to their course. The FLEX Lab can be booked online.
