Security - Security Working Group

The Security Working Group is an ad hoc group of information technology professionals at the University of Waterloo who are concerned about security related issues. The group was formed sometime around the year 2000 as an ad hoc subgroup reporting to UCIST, CSAG and CNAG. It has since evolved to a mailing list primarily concerned with vulnerabilities. The group meets infrequently with regular dialogue by email. Since 2003 the group has been charged to present regular reports to UCIST.

- Mailing List Archive -- we meet infrequently
- Summary: Security Notes -- summaries of automated alarms sent by email.
- Scanning Tools -- the tools used to make those automated alarms.
- Private Notes -- security notes shared within the group.
- SANS Security Consensus Papers -- best advice papers.
Related security groups include:
- Firewall Working Group (2004/10) -- tasked to improve our campus firewalls. Currently inactive awaiting aquistion.
- IST Security Advancement Group (2006/01) -- internal IST security coordination.
