Certificate Services

IST has the authority to issue Globalsign certificates for University of Waterloo business, in most cases, at no charge. These certificates are trusted by most modern SSL-enabled software, such as web broswers and email readers.

If you are an administrator for a UW computing system, and require an SSL certificate, please follow the instructions provided. Previously issued IST-CA certificates will be renewed with Globalsign certificates.

University faculty and staff that require SSL certificates for signing/encrypting email, or code-signing, can request one by sending email to the IST Security Operations Centre.

Note: IST will not issue certificates for those not affiliated with the University of Waterloo.
