Register for Backup Service

You must register your computer for backup service. During the registration process, you will be required to supply an account number which will be charged for the backups.

Except for very unusual circumstances, you should use hoover.uwaterloo.ca as the name of the backup server that will be backing up the data from your computer.

To register for the service, use one of the following methods:

  1. complete the form for IST Backup Request
  2. contact the IST Help Desk, 519-888-4567 x84357, MC1052
  3. send email to <request@rt.uwaterloo.ca>

The preferred method is option "a." When you click on the above URL, you should be taken to the IST Problem Tracking System. In the pull-down menu which shows Please Choose Request Type, select IST - Backup/Recover, click Create a New Request, then fill in the blanks. One of your choices specifies the type of computer you are backing up. Unless you are registering a server, you should choose either Workstation Backup or Laptop Backup (default is Server Backup). Click Submit Request.
