Moving or re-installing an existing UD/WCG install

If you want to maintain the present registration information for UD/WCG (which contains your user ID & login, grid ID#, machine name, etc) and keep the grid statistics straight, then before re-installing copy out the existing CS.UD file from the present WCG install folder. (You can also copy the entire WCG folder).

Moving: To move an existing WCG install, especially when you have an active work unit, follow the steps below. Note that this won’t change the registry installer paths for WCG so the uninstall feature likely won’t work. If the drive/path changed, you will have to modify or recreate the shortcuts under your username and All Users to point to the new path.

  1. Exit the running agent
  2. Copy the existing WorldCommunityGrid software folder to safe location
  3. Make your required changes
  4. Copy the folder back to its new destination

Re-installation: Re-installing the WCG software, using the same machine name as before, causes a duplicate device to be registered on the grid website, but a new grid ID# is assigned. This throws the device statistics off as you end up with multiple machines with the same name in your device list, but only one is active. The old statistics will be kept visible for two weeks.

When you re-install WCG and you reach the point where it is asking for the Grid Agent Registration, quit the installer and copy the saved CS.UD file into the new WCG install folder. Now launch WCG and most things should be as they were before the re-install. This maintains the existing machine name, login ID’s and grid machine ID# so to the grid the software was never re-installed. If you saved the whole WCG folder, restore it to the new location to maintain the existing work unit.
